Much as I enjoyed the preceding book Horus Rising, it was by design setting the stage for the events to come and thus never got the pace going in the way this book did. The Emperor of Mankind has handed the reins of command to his favoured son, the Warmaster Horus. The headline here is that this is very much not the case in False Gods and there is some genuine layers to the tale told within these pages. The Great Crusade that has taken humanity into the stars continues.
